However, the switch must accept the request.Apps can only send requests
Nintendo did the unthinkable. The gaming giant has finally added friend requests to its Nintendo Switch Online app. It took the company just five years to realize this basic functionality. Thanks to the latest update, users can now send friend requests directly from the Nintendo Switch Online app, but to accept requests you have to do it from the console. Did you seriously consider actually implementing basic online functionality without interfering in any way? You’ll have to jump to consoles.
What’s New
・You can now send a friend request using a friend code. (A Nintendo Switch console is required to accept friend requests.)
・You can now copy the friend code as a URL or save it as a QR code. This allows other users to send friend requests.de.
・Other minor changes are also implemented.
The above changelog was taken from the Play Store listing for the Nintendo Switch Online app and as you can see is explained in the first line. Friend requests can now be sent from the app via friend codes, but unfortunately these invites can only be accepted on the console. This new feature sits well with his recent additions in March, which added the ability to copy friend codes, and the ability to see which friends are online. Much like today’s update, March added features that should have been there since day one.
It’s certainly interesting that Nintendo hasn’t completely abandoned the Nintendo Switch Online app’s existence after five years of largely ignoring it, but the ability to send friend requests within the app could be useful to the few people out there. Plus, you can now create a QR code from your friend code and easily share it with your friends and family. If you want to check out these new features, you can install the latest update for Nintendo Switch Online on your Android via the Play Store widget below.
