Twitch streamers destroy themselves and their settings on Nintendo Switch Sports – “Have you seen the controller fly?”

Post a Comment

On April 29, 2022, Nintendo released a new sports game for the Nintendo Switch: Nintendo Switch Sports. There you can play volleyball, badminton or tennis, among others. Motion-controlled joysticks help make the game as realistic as possible. Controllers come with each switch – but they just fly around the room and pick up the first victims.

N/A? Do you remember Wii Sports for Nintendo Wii? The classic appeared almost 16 years ago and since then on the conscience of many TVs.

Wiimotes, the forerunners of today’s joycons, were also equipped with motion sensors and flew around the athletes’ living quarters.

There is even a small selection of clips showing players accidentally tapping the Wiimote on the TV:

The sports version for the Nintendo Switch also features the first broken monitors and arms. In the meantime, all this is no longer filmed from private pixel cameras, but in Full HD and live on Twitch.

It’s the same with streamer 63man, who played a game of tennis. In the match, he landed a powerful punch and released a joycon that crashed into his monitor with full force.

63man stared blankly at the screen for a few seconds before pointing the camera at the damage. You can see the crash and reaction in this Twitch video:

Noted Twitch streamer Northernlion has also recorded collateral damage while playing the sports game.

But he didn’t play tennis, he played volleyball and tried to get the ball. However, he threw his joystick across the room in an attempt to do so.

“I threw my controller into space, man. Did you see the controller flying?” he asked later, chuckling. Northernlion then said that he may have hurt his hand while trying to catch a joycon.

But not only streamers accidentally recorded their crashes live, a Reddit user also posted a photo in a post that has already racked up nearly 20,000 upvotes. “My first broken TV while playing Switch Sports,” Reddit user Equivalent_Actuary_6 captioned the post:

What does the community say about the incidents?

They find it amusing and nostalgic. A lot of people are excited about the old days of 2006-2008 when a lot of people were playing Wii Sports and breaking their monitors.

We have selected a few apt statements from Reddit for you:

  • Kellilk is nostalgic: “Man, it feels like 2007 again.”
  • Mykeprime also says, “So it starts again.”
  • tehnoodnub said, “This is the content I’ve been waiting for,” to which Empty_Combinations_64 replied, “In short, it’s basically Wii Sports.”
  • CRawr27 recalls: “I learned my lesson from the Wii days, but with a wall. Now I know better…”

Many also point out that you should always tie the included Joycon straps around your wrist to prevent just such accidents from happening. However, such tapes already existed during the Wiimote era. Seems like not much has changed in 16 years.
