With the new 911 Sport Classic, Porsche is presenting the second of four collector’s items as part of the Heritage design strategy.

The small Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur series, limited to 1250 pieces, revives the style of the 1960s and early 1970s. Like its immediate predecessor, the 911 Sport Classic, based on the 997 introduced in 2009, this vehicle is visually inspired by the original 911 (1964-1973) as well as the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 (1972)1.

“Heritage Design models symbolize particularly emotional concepts in Porsche’s product strategy,” says Alexander Fabig, Head of Customization and Classics. With this extraordinary approach, Porsche Style Design, together with Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, is reimagining iconic 911 models and equipment from the 1950s-1980s and restoring design features again.” once and in a limited number of lights out. The first own model of the series was the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition introduced in 2020 in the style of the 50s and 60s.

Porsche Design has developed a high-quality chronograph exclusively for collectors. Numerous details make it visually harmonious with the new 911 Sport Classic. As part of the Heritage Design Classic package2, selected interior elements of the new 911 Sport Classic will also be available for most current 911 models.

With the wide body of the 911 Turbo, the fixed rear spoiler in the iconic ducktail design and the double domed roof, the new 911 Sport Classic emphasizes its exceptional position.

As with the first 911 Sport Classic (Type 997) from 2009, the designers took inspiration from the trendy gray of the early Porsche 356 when it came to the limited-series exclusive paint job. “The new 911 Sport Classic heralds an era of sporty metallic gray,” says Michael Mauer, Head of Styling at Porsche. “Grey is never boring, it is very often eye-catching and always relevant.” As an alternative to the exclusive Sport Gray metallic, the new 911 Sport Classic is also available in Black, Agate Grey, Metallic Gentian Blue or your choice3. Light gray painted double stripes on the hood, roof and rear spoiler underline the sporty look.

Inside, the iconic Pepita fabric pattern adorns the exterior mirrors and seat centers. The two-tone black/classic cognac semi-aniline leather interior creates an elegant contrast to the exterior.

Currently the most powerful manual 911

The drive concept is also unique: 3.7-litre flat-six turbocharged engine (911 Sport Classic: combined fuel consumption (WLTP) 12.6 l/100 km, CO₂ emissions combined* (WLTP) 285 g/km, combined fuel consumption* (NEDC) 12.8 l/100 km, CO₂ emissions combined* (NEDC) 292 g/km) transfers its 405 kW (550 hp) to the road exclusively via the rear wheels. Paired with a seven-speed manual transmission, the new 911 Sport Classic is the most powerful manual transmission 911 to date.

The transmission has an automatic gearshift function that compensates for speed differences between gears with targeted double shifts when downshifting. The standard sports exhaust system is specially designed for the model and provides an even more emotional sound.

Design, technology and a lot of history

A conversation with Grant Larson, Daniela Milosevic, Chris Holzinger and Boris Apenbrink about the new 911 Sport Classic.

The chassis inherited from the 911 Turbo and 911 GTS meets high performance standards: thanks to the standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), the shock absorbers respond instantly to dynamic changes. PASM is combined with a sports suspension and ten millimeter lowering as standard.
