Tiny Tina’s Wonderland is the latest installment in the popular Borderlands franchise and contains many new features. However, shortly after the release, some players are experiencing a nasty bug that sometimes resets many hours of game time. All platforms are reported to be affected, including PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
What is this error? This is a problem with cloud storage. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands apparently saves progress both in the cloud and on a local console or PC.
If the two savepoints no longer match, a conflict will occur and a message will appear. When you start the game, you will be asked if you want to load a cloud save or a local save.
If you choose the wrong save here, it may happen that all your progress from the last session has been deleted. Game Expert Paul Tassi by Forbes says that in this way he passed from the 22nd level back to the 16th.
Popular streamer Destiny Gothalion speaks on twitter about losing 8 hours of progress. With him, there was no question at all which memory file he wanted to take over. Just lost progress.
Where does the error come from? The ShiFT servers had a big problem when Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands was released and they still seem to be overloaded. These servers operate, among other things Crossplay in Wonderland as well as connecting to your account.
If there are connection issues, proper cloud storage may not work. In this case, only the local backup file is relevant, although problems can arise here as well.
Everything you need to know about Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands in 3 minutes
Cloud bug likely affects PlayStation, Xbox and PC
Who got hurt? According to Tassi, as well as numerous complaints on social media and on Reddit, all versions of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands are affected. So the problem seems to be not only in Epic (PC), but also in the publisher.
However, reports are relatively rare. So it seems that there are not so many affected, or the rollback is so minor that it is not noticeable. However, if you have a problem, it can be very annoying.
How can I protect myself? If you are asked which save file you want to use, it is not necessary to select a newer one, select a local file. Usually this should have correctly saved the progress. However, there is no guarantee here!
You can also disable cloud backups altogether in the settings, for example using the Epic Games Launcher. This should at least prevent the error. If your progress is already lost, there’s probably not much you can do.
Tassi also advises exiting Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands more often to save outside of autosave more often. However, we have not yet been able to test if this helps. Probably worth waiting for the developers to fix the problem.
Currently, there are also problems in the game’s cooperative mode. In fact, multiplayer in the Borderlands series is one of the most lauded features, but Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands seems to be missing something here:
