Borderlands spin-off Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands releases on Friday. The character Tiny Tina also has a special connection to Lisa Simpson.
The Borderlands series is known for its sometimes crude humor, unexpected ideas, and wacky characters like Tiny Tina. The character first appeared in 2012 as a 13-year-old explosives expert in Part 2. Less than a year later, she received a “Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep” download expansion named after her, which was re-released again in 2021 as a standalone game.
As a game master, an excited Tina had adventures in the fictional pen-and-paper role-playing game Bunkers & Badasses. Developer Gearbox Software and publisher 2K are building on this and releasing Borderlands spin-off “Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands” for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on March 25th. And the video game also has an unexpected connection to The Simpsons.
Tiny Tina has something in common with Lisa from The Simpsons.
One is piercing, causes chaos and madness, likes explosives and sugar. The other one is very smart, a vegetarian and a top student. But Tiny Tina and Lisa Simpson from the cult animated series have one thing in common.
Both characters speak German voice actress, writer and actress Sabine Bohlmann (53). She has dubbed Lisa since the 1990s and has voiced Moaning Myrtle from Harry Potter and Pikachu in the Pokemon series, among other things.
Bohlmann especially appreciates one thing about Tiny Tina, which she revealed in an interview with 2K: “I love that this is the craziest character I have ever talked about and probably will ever talk about. […] Sometimes Tina screams, sometimes she is silent, sometimes she goes completely crazy, sometimes she is a small child. Her personality pretty much sums it all up.”
But the dubbing actress sees parallels with Lisa: “Sometimes she also has moments when she goes a little crazy. For example, when she is in complete despair because her family does not see how smart she is. Sometimes Lisa just goes crazy and that’s when she also has some Tiny Tina.”
Crazy fantasy adventure with friends
In a thrilling adventure between shooter, RPG, magic, madness and lots of loot, things are about to go awry again in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. Players can choose their character from several classes, including Killomancer and Brr-Serker.
Then you will dive into the fantasy spin-off alone or with up to three friends. There they meet characters such as the Queen of Asshorse, whom the creators call “the smartest, most beautiful, most perfect ruler of all time.” It should be clear that players shouldn’t take Tiny Tina’s pen-and-paper digital RPG too seriously. 13 years old at least looking forward to the session: “We play Bunkers & Badasses, baby!”
