Apple is working on an update to the Face ID feature for iPhone. In the future, facial recognition should also work with a protective mask.

If you’re using an iPhone, you’ll soon be able to unlock your smartphone with a protective mask using facial recognition. Now, Apple has made the updated “Face ID” feature available for the first time in the iOS 15.4 beta operating system available to developers.

This is already possible, but only in a roundabout way – because until now an Apple Watch was also required if a mouth and nose cover is put on. To do this, Face ID will focus on “unique features in the eye area” in the future to recognize the user, like YouTuber Brandon Butch indicates. There will be new emoticons

Apple first introduced Face ID on the iPhone X in 2017. It is not yet known when the finished update to iOS 15.4 will be released.
