The free French operating system PrimTux 7 is an educational distribution for school computers and teachers, which is based on Debian and also runs reasonably on older hardware and which comes with a large number of specialized applications. The distribution was developed by teachers for teachers.
Designed by teachers for teachers and students
On the basis of what is considered to be particularly stable Debian GNU / Linux and the free Linux 5.4 operating system kernel, a group of French teachers has created a small Linux distribution aimed primarily at teachers and students in three age groups. PrimTux 7 is designed to be easy to use even on older computer systems and relies on the resource-saving window manager when choosing its working environment Fluxbox.

The slim Linux distribution is divided into four completely different workspaces and offers a view for teachers, the so-called office, as well as for the age groups Mini (3-6 years), Super (6-8 years) and Maxi (8-10 years). Each “desktop” contains the right applications and tools for the respective purpose and user base.

The software selection is specially designed for the education sector and includes corresponding applications for teachers and students as well as entertaining learning games for more fun in the classroom. Well-known and modern open source software such as Mozilla Firefox 94, which has been expanded to include child protection, and the free office suite LibreOffice are also on board. In addition, music, videos and streams can be played back via the well-known VLC media player.
