A former military base in New Jersey called Fort Monmouth could become a major production center for future Netflix films and TV series. The company announced its desire to buy real estate, but did not say how much it is willing to pay. Fort Monmouth was officially closed by the US government in 2011.
The area of the territory is 117 hectares. Netflix has announced plans to modernize the venue, turning it into a platform for new films, as well as post-production with processing footage.
Earlier, Netflix acquired its largest production center ABQ Studios in New Mexico. Assuming the streaming company buys property in New Jersey, the production studio it builds there will be the second largest.
In a statement, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy expressed his enthusiasm for Netflix’s plan to bet on Fort Monmouth. The creation of a new manufacturing center will create a large number of new jobs in New Jersey.
