A new feature could soon arrive on the iPhone and the Apple Watch. Apple is in fact working at this very moment on an automatic system for detecting road accidents. The future option could thus identify when an accident has occurred and automatically notify the emergency services, reveals the Wall Street Journal. Information in this direction would have been discovered in internal documents of Apple.

An option already existing at Google

To develop such a feature, Apple uses data from its various sensors, including the accelerometer, which can detect a shock or a sudden collision. This technology would be tested by the brand with the big apple for a year. More than 10 million car accidents have thus been detected, specifies Phonandroid, and 5,000 of them were followed by a call for help.

This option resembles the one already offered by Google Pixel smartphones. They are indeed able to identify traffic accidents and call for help. Regarding Apple devices, no date has been revealed but this new feature could be integrated as early as next year.
