For Call of Duty, stronger hardware is listed in the official requirements this year. This is due to additional configurations that cover playback in UHD resolution, among other things. Minimum and recommended requirements increase slightly compared to the previous year.
At the lower end, the requirements remain almost unchanged. Curiously, a GeForce GTX 970 now becomes a slower GTX 960, while an ancient AMD Radeon HD 7950 becomes a significantly more stable AMD Radeon RX 470. The processor, on the other hand, can be as slow as before: An AMD bulldozer or dual-core processor from Intel with SMT are enough to be able to play. The recommendation, however, remains a more powerful system with a quad-core processor or a six-core AMD Ryzen CPU, but eight gigabytes of RAM are now 12.
Information for competitive gaming is new, although it is unclear which resolution the information refers to. High frame rates would be more logical. For this, a Ryzen 7 1800X or a still speedy Core i7-8700K are called, which are coupled with the RTX 2070 or AMD’s RX 5700 XT, powerful mid-range GPUs. 16 gigabytes of RAM are required here, but also in the fourth computer for UHD.
For the UHD computer, Activision basically names the fastest of the fastest: The fact that a Core i9-9900K or an AMD Ryzen 9 3900X is really needed would be surprising in view of previous experience with series from previous years. In Modern Warfare (test) the processor plays almost no role. For UHD you also need an AMD RX 6800 XT or Nvidia RTX 3080 – if you could buy them.
Call of Duty: Vanguard will be released on November 5th, the preload via Battle.net is already possible now.
