With KB5006674 Microsoft publishes the first cumulative update for Windows 11 and raises the operating system to build 22000.258. In addition to some minor security updates, problems with Intel “Killer” and “SmartByte”, which are related to the User Datagram Protocol (UDP) occurred.
Security updates and first small product updates
In addition to the Security updates from October 2021, which also improve the components .NET Core and Visual Studio, DirectX, the Windows Installer and the Windows Kernel, the official Release Notes make the following changes to cumulative update KB50006674.
Known issues from KB5006674:
- Microsoft is currently not aware of any issues with this update.
Problems resolved by KB5006674:
- Updates the Security for your Windows operating system.
- Fixes known compatibility issues between some Intel “Killer” and “SmartByte” network software and Windows 11 (original version).
- Devices with the affected software can discard UDP (User Datagram Protocol) packets under certain conditions. This leads to performance and other problems with protocols based on UDP.
- For example, some websites may load more slowly than others on the affected devices, which can cause videos to stream more slowly in certain resolutions. VPN solutions based on UDP can also be slower.
The cumulative update KB50006674 is already being rolled out to all users with Windows 11 Build 22000.194 and automatically raises the operating system to the new Build 22000.258.
Windows 10 receives security updates
The security updates for October will be shipped as KB5006670 also distributed for Windows 10, which is raised to build 19044.1288 (“21H2”), 19043.1288 (“21H1”), 19042.1288 (“20H2”) or 19041.1288 (“20H1”).
