Asus × Noctua: graphics card with two NF-A12x25 fans and 4.3 slots

The rumors were right: Asus is launching a graphics card of the Ampere generation that is equipped with fans from Noctua. Asus has now confirmed and shown the special GeForce RTX 3070 itself indirectly.

Asus was rash in Vietnam

The RTX3070-O8G-NOCTUA model could be seen on Asus Vietnam’s Facebook page, meanwhile but the post was removed again. But as is well known, nothing is lost on the Internet and the images have long been mirrored countless times.

GeForce RTX 3070 with two Noctua fans

The new GeForce RTX 3070 from Asus has an unusual design with two large Noctua fans in the brown typical of the Austrian cooler manufacturer. The color is also program on the flank, where the cooperation between Asus and Noctua is made clear with the logos of both manufacturers.

The graphics card protrudes more than three slots in depth. A segmented radiator with heat pipes, a backplate and two 8-pin sockets for power supply can also be seen in the pictures. The length of the slot cover also clearly exceeds the design. Three DisplayPort and two HDMI can be seen at the connections. The “O8G” indicates an overclocked version of the GeForce graphics card with 8 GB of memory.

As WCCFTech reported, a price of 26 million Vietnamese Đồng was called, which corresponds to around 990 euros at the current exchange rate.

Twice 120 mm

The two fans are said to be the NF-A12x25 model. With a diameter of 120 mm, it is clear why the graphics card is so huge.

It is unlikely that Asus will only serve certain regions such as Vietnam with this model. When the global market launch will take place is at least not yet known to the public.

Update 10/4/2021 3:46 p.m.

Noctua and Asus have the jointly developed graphics card cooler, which is used for the first time on the Asus GeForce RTX 3070 Noctua Edition (alternatively as an OC variant) Has, officially presented. The cooperation is not only a first for the partners Asus and Noctua, it is the first time that Noctua has implemented a graphics card cooler with another OEM.

The official product images and the specifications now published by Asus make it clear: the two 120 mm NF-A12x25 LS-PWM fans not only make a difference in terms of delivery rate, delivery pressure and volume, they also make a massive difference with a frame width of 25 millimeters Cooler-fan construction: 4.3 slot measures the graphics card in height.

Noctua and Asus promise lower noise emissions over the entire speed range with better cooling performance than the “standard model” of the Asus GeForce RTX 3070 – even though the Noctua Edition only rotates a maximum of 2,000 rpm. The fans, which are comparatively large at 120 mm, pay off here. Both manufacturers do not say which model the standard version used for comparison is based on: Asus offers the GeForce RTX 3070 as ROG Strix, TUF Gaming and Dual.

The graphics card will cost 829 euros as an OC version and 819 euros as a non-OC version. The delivery of the first product is planned for mid-October. ComputerBase is expecting a test sample in the editorial office in the coming days.

As Noctua informed the editors when asked, the Asus GeForce RTX 3070 TUF Gaming is behind the “standard version” used for comparison.

    Update 10/7/2021 1:56 p.m.

The cooler of the Asus RTX 3070 Noctua Edition looks very similar to that of the Asus RTX 3070 TUF Gaming. This is what the YouTuber wants der8auer when taking apart the new graphics card, admitted at the same time that they could be wrong.

He used a sample of the new graphics card and a photo of the naked TUF cooler that ComputerBase had taken at the end of 2020 as a basis. The problem: it only shows the cooler from above, not from the side.

Noctua says that the cooler is not identical and has been optimized together with Asus. Deeper cooling fins should provide a larger surface and better utilize the performance potential of the fans. A comparison, which the manufacturer has now put online, provides the evidence from a perspective that the photo of the editorial team did not allow.

ComputerBase has the RTX 3070 Noctua Edition and will subject it to a test in due course. Because the TUF variant is already a year ago at the manufacturer, there will in all probability not be a direct comparison even then.
