Lenovo has introduced a new UHD monitor for professional users such as photographers, graphic artists and videographers. The ThinkVision P27u-20 with 27 inches offers a high pixel density. Many connections including Thunderbolt 4 and USB-C turn the monitor into a docking station.

ThinkVision P27u-20 with high pixel density

With a UHD resolution of 3,840 × 2,160 on a 27-inch diagonal, the ThinkVision P27u-20 has a pixel density of 163 ppi, which is very high for monitors. Without scaling adjustment, however, windows and elements under Windows can turn out to be very small. The anti-glare IPS panel with slim bezel has a small color difference of Delta E <1 calibrated and offers an extended color spectrum that should reach around 99 percent of Adobe RGB and DCI-P3. The 10 bit color depth is only simulated (8 bit + FRC).

The brightness of 400 cd / m² (450 cd / m² at its peak) is above the average for IPS screens, but is only sufficient for the smallest HDR class (HDR 400). The refresh rate of 60 Hz and the contrast ratio of 1,000: 1 are standard fare.

Lots of ports including Thunderbolt 4 and USB-C

Again, the equipment in the area of connection options is outstanding. The Thunderbolt 4 interface packed with features is still very rarely represented in the monitor segment and is represented as an input and output in the P27u-20, as is the case with the larger P40w-20 with 5K resolution. There are also two HDMI 2.0s, one DisplayPort 1.2, a Gigabit Ethernet port, an audio output and various USB sockets.

While Thunderbolt 4 can supply a notebook with up to 100 watts, for example, the individual USB-C port still offers a maximum of 27 watts, for example for charging a smartphone. A KVM switch is integrated.

Additional features include speakers and a stand with all common options for ergonomic alignment of the display.

    Price, availability and specifications

Lenovo states the expected availability for January 2022. Then the ThinkVision P27u-20 will cost 805 euros excluding VAT. With 19 percent VAT it would be around 958 euros. The larger ThinkVision P40w-20 offshoot mentioned above costs about twice as much.

ComputerBase received information about this article from Lenovo under NDA. The only requirement was the earliest possible publication time.
