There is information about a new tragic accident involving a Tesla electric car, which was moving in autopilot mode. Tesla warns drivers to keep their hands on the wheel in this mode, but few follow the guidelines. Some even activate the autopilot and get into the back seat.
Police in Coral Gables, Florida were called to the scene of a Tesla Model 3 crash. The crash occurred in a residential area. According to police, immediately before the accident, the Tesla Model 3 car was moving in autopilot mode.
After the Model 3 was involved in a fatal accident, the battery caught fire. Two passengers were killed and their bodies were badly burned. So much so that they were not immediately identified. The car just pulled off the road and crashed into a tree.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) confirmed that the regulator sent three investigators to the area to investigate the causes of the accident. This is not the first accident allegedly related to the Tesla autopilot system that the NTSB has investigated.
In August, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) launched a formal investigation into 11 accidents involving Tesla vehicles equipped with autopilot.
