Quantic Dream: Star Wars game with more action in the works

Quantic Dream is working on a Star Wars game. According to leaked information, it should deviate from the previous “studio recipe” and contain more action. However, this approach is said to have led to internal tensions.

The information initially brought the YouTube channel “Gautoz” in circulation. Further confirmation comes from DualShockers based on another source. Third mouth could finally Kotaku confirm the rumors: Quantic Dream has been working on a game in the Star Wars universe for around 18 months. After the expiry of the exclusive contract with Sony, the studio has now looked for Disney as a partner.

This is possible because Disney has also let a contract expire – the license for Star Wars will soon no longer be exclusively in the hands of EA. From 2023 the license can also be used by other studios. This is why Ubisoft is already developing a corresponding open world game based on the Snowdrop engine.

Not your typical Quantic game

According to the current state of knowledge, the project will not be a “Quantic Dream title” and thus, unlike the last Detroit: Become Human, will not be an interactive film with Quicktime events, but a more conventional title with gameplay and action. Multiplayer components and an open world are possible cornerstones. The project is being managed by Quantics’ new studio in Montreal, for which employees from Eidos, WB Games and Ubisoft, who also have branches in the Canadian metropolis, have been recruited.

The company would like to gain experience with games outside of the “game film”, reports Kotaku, citing two former developers from Quantic. This fits in with the growth path: With money from NetEase, Quantic would like to open up significantly larger target groups in the future. A Star Wars game of conventional design would go well with this. However, the development is not going optimally. The engine used so far and the developer tools are not necessarily suitable for such titles, and there are tensions regarding the change of priorities away from the story and towards the gameplay.
