Initial listings in Dutch shops show prices for Intel Alder Lake, which sometimes reach well over 700 euros. But after benchmarks recently made the rounds, according to which the upcoming flagship can also beat an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X in certain applications, this could also be the case in the end.
An AMD Ryzen 9 5950X currently costs at least 700 euros. Should Intel’s new Core i9-12900K offer more performance, the high early price listings should come very close to reality.
It should be clear that in the end it is in no way cheaper than the predecessor Rocket Lake-S: Alder Lake-S offers more performance even with the same number of performance cores (P), but also efficient cores (E) come, the overall package should convince. The Core i9-11900K (test) currently costs at least 520 euros. For more details on Alder Lake, see the ComputerBase report: “Intel Alder Lake: 19% higher IPC, hardware scheduler, DDR5 and more“.
Strongly fluctuating information for the top models
However, the early entries in retail cannot yet be taken at face value, as they fluctuate too much for that. The shop Beat-it.nl lists the Core i9-12900K for just 540 euros before taxeswhich means 653 euros including German VAT. 740 euros at PetDirect are significantly higher again. However, the difference is only so pronounced with the large CPUs.
The smaller variants are much closer together in the shops, like Tweakers has determined. A certain premium surcharge of some shops for first-time buyers would be nothing new, as can be seen with the previous generation in the form of the Core i7-11700K, where first-time customers paid 470 euros – at the start, however, the price quickly landed at 400 euros. The MSRP is $ 399 before tax.
