Google chose this Wednesday to pay tribute to Swedish DJ Avicii through
his doodle of the day. The artist whose real name is Tim Bergling would indeed have celebrated his birthday today. He committed suicide in 2018 at the age of 28 after struggling for several years with mental disorders. The death of the one who was also a producer and composer has shocked his fans as well as the general public.

Avicii was one of the most famous Swedes in the world and his country paid tribute to him. In 2021, the Ericsson Globe Arena, a large performance hall located in Stockholm (Sweden) was renamed Avicii Arena. The site traditionally hosting concerts and sporting events now also serves as a meeting place and discussion on the topic of mental health. To “honor his memory and continue to act in his spirit”, the DJ’s family created
the Tim Bergling Foundation in 2019.

Hundreds of concerts around the globe

Tim Bergling was born in Stockholm in 1989 into a family of artists where music was very present. At 16, he was already mixing songs in his room. The teenager then quickly began to write his own songs. Levels’under the name made it known in 2011. It is one of the first electronic music titles to reach the top of the pop song charts, like other of his creations thereafter.

Wake me up, released in 2013, was his biggest success. Between 2011 and 2016, Avicii gave hundreds of concerts around the world. He filled the 16,000 seats at the Ericsson Globe Arena several times and was a resident DJ in Ibiza (Spain) for five years. The Swede was also a great philanthropist. In 2012, for example, he organized the American “House for Hunger” tour and donated all the profits to an association fighting against hunger.
