TeamViewer, which is especially and not least in the home office year 2020 known for its remote access software, now also supports remote access to physical network attached storage devices (NAS) from QNAP – protected by functions such as a masked one IP address and end-to-end 256-bit session encryption.

In order to use remote access via TeamViewer, users of a QNAP NAS have to download the “TeamViewer IoT Agent” for the NAS from the Download the QNAP App Center on the device. Administrators, for example, can connect to the NAS directly from the TeamViewer desktop client (from version 13.1) and check the status or make adjustments. The browser-based application can also be used so that it can be accessed from anywhere and from any system if required. The client for Linux, macOS and mobile apps cannot currently be used to connect to the NAS.
If necessary, several NAS can also be assigned to your own TeamViewer account, which is also a prerequisite for remote access in order to be able to use a connection, remote access to the Linux shell and management on several systems. However, several users can also be assigned to one NAS, so that remote access with TeamViewer is not limited to one account, which is particularly helpful in companies.

All x86 NAS, some ARM models
Two NAS can be assigned to your own account free of charge. A NAS with the current QTS 5.0 operating system is required. In addition to all x86 NAS from QNAP, the following ARM-based models are currently supported: TS-128A, TS-228A, TS-212P3, TS-130, TS-932X, TS-832X, TS-332X, TS-532X, TS- 932PX, TS-832PX, TS-432XU-RP, TS-432XU, TS-832XU-RP, TS-832XU, TS-1232XU-RP, TS-1232XU, TS-432PXU, TS-432PXU-RP, TS-832PXU, TS-832PXU-RP, TS-1232PXU, TS-1232PXU-RP, TS-1635AX, TS-X35EU, TS-328, TS-428 and TS-230. ARM NAS with Cortex-A15-SoC are therefore not supported.
TeamViewer sees the cooperation with QNAP as proof of the growing acceptance of its own software, which has so far mainly been used by IT professionals.
